This is a string quartet tribute to Elliott Smith doing my favorite song Speed Trials.

Elliott Smith was an amazing artist who left around the first couple of months when I got to LA, he stabbed himself in the heart and there’s been a lot of mystery as to why he did it,  he left a suicide note on a post it that read:

“I’m so sorry—love, Elliott. God forgive me.”

With no drugs in his system and no possible reason to committ suicide, many peoople suspect his girlfriend killed him and made it look like a suicide, she stated that they had an argument and she locked herself in the bathroom to take a shower, she heard screams and came out finding him in the kitchen with a knife in his chest that she pulled out.

Some say that the lyrics to one of his last songs “King’s Crossing” read like a suicide note:

King’s Crossing

The king’s crossing was the main attraction
Dominos are falling in a chain reaction
The scraping subject ruled by fear told me
Whiskey works better than beer

The judge is on vinyl, decisions are final
And nobody gets a reprieve
And every wave is tidal
If you hang around
You’re going to get wet

I can’t prepare for death any more than I already have
All you can do now is watch the shells
The game looks easy, that’s why it sells
Frustrated fireworks inside your head
Are going to stand and deliver talk instead
The method acting that pays my bills
Keeps the fat man feeding in Beverly Hills
I got a heavy metal mouth that hurls obscenity
And I get my check from the trash treasury
Because I took my own insides out

It don’t matter because I have no sex life
All I want to do now is inject my ex-wife
I’ve seen the movie
And I know what happens

It’s Christmas time
And the needles on the tree
A skinny Santa is bringing something to me
His voice is overwhelming
But his speech is slurred
And I only understand every other word
Open your parachute and grab your gun
Falling down like an omen, a setting sun
Read the part and return at five
It’s a hell of a role if you can keep it alive
But I don’t care if I fuck up
I’m going on a date
With a rich white lady
Ain’t life great?
Give me one good reason not to do it
(Because we love you)
So do it

This is the place where time reverses
Dead men talk to all the pretty nurses
Instruments shine on a silver tray
Don’t let me get carried away
Don’t let me get carried away
Don’t let me be carried away

It can be said that this song had nothing to do with him wanting to kill himself or that he didn’t kill himself, there’s all sorts of speculation, I wish I was a detective cause the case was dropped recently, I’d solve up that shit

The Pixies - The Happening from Bossanova.

Here’s my rainy day track to get you through the day off, you lucky sonofabitch!  I’m working so I’m a bit jealous of you at the moment.  But I found this great great track that’s hidden in the depths of almost my favorite Pixies album.  I say almost because we all know Surfer Rosa and Doolittle are the best.  But Bossanova just has those wonderful tunes that don’t go away.  They’re nice litty ditties that are fun to hang out with.  I find myself coming back again and again to Bossanova for a cheer me up when I’m down or bored and lonely mood.  This song has quite a few layers in it that make you feel all nice and cozy like in this rainy weather, enjoy my peeps!

The Boxer Rebellion - Spitting Fire

This album is like gold in my ears, so good, such shining vocals and shimmering instruments, like if Bloc Party died and went to heaven

Feelin’ Blue?

Well do what I do and blast the Labyrinth soundtrack.  Magic Dance is seriously the best song to play whenever you’re low.  If you’re like me and worship this movie then you know this song all too well.

Riverdales -  Back to You

Here’s a song from my past I used to listen to this song over and over and over.  It was on the Angus Soundtrack, straight outta 95’ I figured I’d share some of my musical past with you all.

“I’m a man eater but still you’re surprised when I eat ya”
oh man, I love you Neko!

“I’m a man eater but still you’re surprised when I eat ya”

oh man, I love you Neko!

Neko Case - People Got a Lotta Nerve

Totally salivating like crazy for this new album, if this song is any reminder, it’s gonna be as good if not better than Fox Confessor which was a true gem.

Yesterday, I tried to start my New Pornographers comparison songs of members thing you know what have you and I wanted to start with lovely Neko but didn’t have the song that most meant the most to me.  And so I looked awhile cause my copy is dust in the wind.  And finally found it.  You can see from this track just how lovely her voice is.  How she has that gentle croon that’s a lullaby for anyone to lay their head close their eyes and imagine a wonderful place.

This was my favorite song when I was on the can.
